From LILUG

Next General LILUG Meeting

Anthony Leotta will be give a working talk on the new IDE for the R programming language. R is an open implementation of the proprietary statistical programming language S.

We also will be introducing the draft of the new LILUG Conflict Of Interest Policy. Secretary Matt Surico will explain what a COIP should do, especially in relationship to a non-profit wishing to have tax-exempt status with the IRS; he'll also briefly outline the draft COIP.

We will then have an open group discussion, led by the LILUG officers, on an amendment to the LILUG by-laws with respect to what the appropriate actions should be for the group to take against someone violating the COIP.

Official voting on both items would not take place until the March general meeting, at the earliest.

  • The next Lilug meeting is: February 7th @8pm (Please note this is a change to the regular pattern of monthly meetings since Valentine's Day falls on the second Tuesday)
  • The next Lilug IRC meeting is: Tuesday, February 7th @ 8:00pm

Special Interest Group

Lilug has a special interest group called SI-SIG for 'Security and Infrastructure'. This SIG has monthly meetings that are smaller and have more of a discussion format where Lilug proper has more formal lectures.

  • The next Lilug Si Sig meeting is: Thursday, February 23rd @ 8:00pm

SOPA Gift Baskets

A few of us on irc are organizing sending gift baskets to those who oppose HR 3261. Check the SOPA page for more details.

Development

Development still needs to be done on the skin that we're using for mediawiki. Experimentation with any part of the skin is totally welcomed and encouraged. So, if you want to play around with it, everything you need, including instructions on how to get started, is available on github. You can clone the lilug wiki bits by running the following command:

git clone http://github.com/markdrago/lilug
