Discussions/Announcements
New Website
- Matt Newhall solicited ideas that could be useful for our new website. Possible items included past meeting minutes, voting/polling scripts, job posting service, anything else that would be beneficial to the LI Linux Community
- We have our own domain, lilug.org. A collection was taken up to fund 50% of the registration cost (Tim Sailer of Coastal Internet, the web hosting service, donated the other 50%). Monies collected in excess of the 50% hosting fee will go into the general Group Fund.
- The following brave souls were appointed as co-webmasters for www.lilug.org: Matt Surico and Rob Dumas. Rob will handle much of the front-end design while Matt concentrates on content and any scripting that needs to be done.
Future Meeting Ideas
- Lincoln Stein, author of CGI.pm and many other articles about perl, has been invited to speak at an upcoming meeting. Once his calendar is confirmed, the date will be announced.
- A possible InstallFest is tentatively scheduled for May
- The agenda for next month's meeting, Tuesday, 2 Feb., 1999 at 8 PM (location TBA) , will include a talk about TCP wrappers/firewalls by Tim Sailer. We will also discuss preparations for the InstallFest.
Group Business
LILUG Officer Nominations
- The following persons were nominated for office:
- President: no one!
- Vice-President: Tom Rothamel
- Treasurer: no one!
- Secretary: Matt Surico
- It was decided that nominations will continue up to and including the next regular meeting at which time elections will be held.
Change of Meeting Night
- Starting next month, the regular meeting night will be the first Tuesday of each month
Constitution
- We really didn't have any keen ideas on what should make up our Group's constitution, other than we should probably have some kind of statement distancing the group as a whole from the malicious undoings of any one particular person in the group.
