Technical Problems

  • Networking in SUSE - Someone reported a problem trying to work with his network card on an old version of SuSE. It was suggested that he get the lastest SuSE version in order to get the card working.

The members held informal small group discussions until the donuts arrived.

Speakers

  • Harold Moore and Peter Bowen - Novell
Harold Moore is a Novell system engineer. He has spent 5 years with Novell. He started teaching in 1994 at a Novell Education center.
His presentation focused on the Novell server side. He pointed out why Novell has embraced Linux and showed that people run Novell for the services. So now NetWare 7.0 is available on both the Netware kernel as well as the Linux kernel. If you send email to Harold with LILUG as the subject, you will automagically get a copy of his presentation.
Peter Bowen is a Ximian system engineer. He has been working with Linux since 1995 (Beowolf Clustering). Peter focused his talk on the Novell desktop. He talked about XD2, the GNOME-based desktop. He also talked about RedCarpet Enterprise, which is the graphical client to manage packages on your system and more.

Jeannie Boyle was officially appointed Publicity Coordinator on the LILUG government.
