LILUG General Meeting - Tuesday, 13 March, 2001
From Lilug
Meeting Summary
Group Activity
- The first portion of the meeting was used to allow group members to co-mingle and discuss whatever technical or other Linux issues they were having. Several members had their laptops/PCs so some small demonstrations and problem-solving sessions arose. The group devoured much pizza and soda during this portion of the meeting!
Discussions/Announcements
LILUG Install Day at Stony Brook
- LILUG President Matt Newhall announced that on Saturday, April 21, 2001, Tom Rothamel will be coordinating a LILUG Install Day at SUNY Stony Brook, from 1-5 PM. More information will be discussed about arrangements for this day.
Next Meeting
- There will likely be a Linux demonstration at the next meeting; more details will be discussed on the mailing list. Typically several persons have been routinely bringing their laptops to the meetings, so this should not pose a problem to arrange some demos even on the spot
- Also at the next meeting we expect to have guest speaker(s) from the FlightGear group (the OpenSource flight simulator developers).
Stony Brook Demo
- Tom Rothamel suggested that we might want to coordinate a demo at SUNY Stony Brook someday as well.
Questions
- Members were asked for their comments on the new filesystems being used/developed in Linux.
- Tom R. commented that he has been using the ReiserFS (which has current kernel support) and it works OK. Another fs that was touted by some is Tux2, which seems to have the benefits of a journalling filesystem without the overhead.
Group Business
Raffles
- Running Linux: Walter Rosenblatt, Juan, Chris M., Dutch, Jay and Leroy
- Soldier Of Fortune: John Marr
- Civilization: Chris Nadle
- Mousepads: Gladson George, Dutch
After these formal discussions, members went back to their informal group discussions for the remainder of the meeting time.
