Discussions/Announcements
CTTC
- Greg Schneider of the Computer Technology Training Center (CTTC) in Farmingdale gave a brief presentation on the CTTC's need to have qualified Linux instructors teach at their facility. CTTC would pay for one's certification in exchange for a promise to teach exclusively for CTTC for one year. There are three certification exams: Linux SysAdmin, Linux Network Admin and Linux Enterprise Admin. One needs to pass the first 2 exams to teach the first course.
Problems
- Parallel Port not found on SuSE 6.4
- Suggestions included checking to see if parallel port support was compiled into the kernel, using GIMP's native printer drivers, and even turning the printer off before booting the PC then turning it on again!
- Installing Debian on a PC with RedHat already on it
- Using Storm Linux is a possibility. One could also make boot floppies from the directory in the distribution.
- What programs exist for doing C code profiling in Linux?
- gprof was recommended.
- How can you create ("burn") CDs in Linux?
- A graphical tool that was recommended was gcombust.
- Is Oracle on Linux MTS (multi-threaded server) capable?
- Yes, the current release 8.1.6 supports MTS on Linux.
