LILUG General Meeting - Tuesday, 13 July, 1999
From Lilug
Meeting Summary
Discussions/Announcements
Next Meeting: Webserver Fest
- Matt Newhall reminded us about the Web Server Fest coming up next Month (August 10th meeting). Apache and Roxen will be featured.
Meeting At BNL on OpenSource/OpenScience
- Matt N. also announced that Brookhaven National Lab is having an Open Source/Open Science Meeting at their site on Saturnday October 2, 1999. About a half-dozen LILUG members raised their hands when asked who might be interested in coming.
Group Business
Linux Demo Day
- Rob Dumas continued an update of information he had mentioned on our mailing list concerning Barnes and Noble (Huntington store) and the mutual interest they and we have in a possible Linux Demo Day. This turns out to coincide nicely with the National Linux Demo Day concept Matt N. mentioned earlier in the meeting.
- The group agreed on the following key points during Rob's presentation:
- A weekend would be best, especially a Sunday. Rob will check to see if the Barnes and Noble store can schedule us for Sunday Sept. 12th
- It is then conceivable that the interested customers from the demo would want help installing Linux, and we could offer that at our next meeting, just two days after the demo.
- These topics merit further discussion for likely incorporation into the demo:
- Web Server(s)
- Office Apps (like StarOffice and WordPerfect for Linux)
- Samba and Windows
- Linux on a laptop
- GNOME and/or KDE
- Games
- Further discussions will be had over the lilug.org mailing list.
