  • Michael Dietz - Wireless Technology
LILUG member Michael Dietz gave a talk on wireless technology. He covered the existing standards and the pros and cons of each. He also gave some useful tips for making it work and for dealing with security issues. He also mentioned about "War Chalking" (which started in England - it lets you know where public access points are) and about nycwireless.org, which touts free sharing of Internet access.

A question was asked: Is Adobe available on Linux?
  • Digital Video Editing
It was suggested that digital video editing be covered in a future meeting.
  • CUPS
It was mentioned that CUPS (common UNIX printing system) is available on RedHat, SuSE and Mandrake
  • Linux Teaching Opportunities
There are Linux teaching opportunities at Briarcliffe College.
  • Eric Raymond at NYPC
Eric Raymond will be speaking at the next NYPC meeting, Weds. 21 Jan, at the New School Tishman Auditorium at 6:30 PM. Check their website for more details.

Group Business

Next Month

Next month, we will have a LAN party and InstallFest at the general meeting. We will meet in 202 Gleeson again in September. Three Linux clustering books will be given to anyone willing to write a review of them; the fourth one will be raffled off later in the meeting.
