Elections
- The following persons were elected as LILUG officers for the 2007 Calendar Year:
- President: Matt Newhall (incumbent, sole candidate)
- Vice-President: Mark Drago (incumbent, sole candidate)
- Treasurer: Jason K (incumbent, sole candidate)
- Secretary: Matt Surico (incumbent, sole candidate)
Announcements
- LILUG President Matt Newhall mentioned that there are still positions available at Cold Spring Harbor Labs. Specfically, these two positions need to be filled:
- Sysadmin for Scientific Computing (the clustering folks)
- Linux Sysadmin/Developer
Group Discussions/Problems
- Jason mentioned he has a Sony PS2 iToy webcam, which works via USB connection, and that people have it working under Linux but not Windows! He's having 2 problems however:
- When you reboot the computer, the device disappears
- With Skype, the mic input doesn't work
- Various bits of advice were given by a couple of members present on how to continue troubleshooting.
- Jason also mentioned he was having trouble getting reverse tunnelling uner SSH to work. The following reference was mentioned as a good guideline: http://gentoo-wiki.com/TIP_SSH_Reverse_Tunnel
- It was also mentioned that there is a plugin called SpamAssassin Fuzzy OCR, which can help further combat spam via SpamAssassin by attempting to read data contained in the graphics that are imbedded in spam.
- There was a quick mention about Solid State Drives being on the horizon and eventually becoming the preferred option over current Hard Disk Drive technology. It was also advised to skip the hybrid Solid State/Hard Disk Drives out now and wait for 100% Solid State.
