From Lilug
Meeting Summary
Speaker
- James Pryor - Remastering Knoppix
- LILUG Member James Pryor gave a talk about remastering Knoppix. James explained how Knoppix works, and its history. He then described how one goes about doing a remastering. This is a process by which Knoppix is installed onto a PC and then packages are added or subtracted based on the preferences of the person doing the remastering. This is also the time that any bugs needing fixing or reconfiguration desired is done. Then a new CD master is created. James handed out some CDs of a special "LILUG Edition" of the Knoppix distro, version 3.8.1.
- Here are the slides, the ISO image of the CD, and other goodies from James' talk:
- Presentation, OpenOffice Impress format
- Presentation, PDF format
- LILUG Knoppix ISO (KNOPPIX_V3.8.1-LILUG_Edition, 696 MB)
- MD5 checksum for KNOPPIX_V3.8.1-LILUG_Edition.iso
- Modified version of the Knoppix remaster program (modified-remaster_0.1-6)
Discussions/Announcements
O'Reilly Books for LILUG
- Mark Drago, LILUG vice-president, announced that LILUG gets books for free from publishers like O'Reilly, but they really appreciate it when we write back with a book review. Also, if someone wins a book at a raffle but finds out they really didn't need it, or didn't like it, just bring it back to the next meeting and we'll raffle it off again! We'd like to set up some sort of lending library, but we just don't have the resources to do it, so this is the next-best-thing.
