Speakers
- Group members Tom Rothamel and Matt Surico gave talks on the Apache and Roxen web servers, respectively.
- The two went over basic web server concepts (virtual hosting, server-side includes, SSL/certificates, CGI scripting and security issues), then went into configuration of each web server, showing off unique features of each.
Discussions/Announcements
Next InstallDay
- Matt Newhall announced that the next InstallDay will follow right on the heels of the Barnes & Noble demo, on Sunday 26 Sept., 1999. More info on this at our next group meeting.
Problems
- pppd - This can be a difficult job to do; we discussed some of the issues surrounding a particular user's problem.
Group Business
Barnes And Noble Demo
- A sign up sheet was passed around for members to join up on the Barnes & Noble demo effort, which Rob Dumas is coordinating. The demo day is Tuesday, 21 Sept., 1999, at the Rt. 110 (Huntington) store, at 7:30 PM.
BNL Open Science/Open Source Conference
- A sign up sheet was also also passed around for people who are interested in sitting at our group's table for the BNL Open Science/Open Source conference on October 2, 1999.
LILUG Funds
- After the talks, Ari Share, our treasurer, collected funds for a the pizza we ate plus a new coffee pot. The executive committee of the group decided to go for a large-sized $70 pot, for maximum coffee enjoyment!
