GNUBurger 2009

From LILUG

Our annual LILUG picnic is scheduled to start at noon on Saturday, May 30th, 2009 This year's event will be held at Bethpage State Park in the picnic area. Pictures can be found from 2005's event at the Gaggle of Geeks 2005 entry.

What to bring

LILUG is springing for all of the essentials...

  • burgers
  • buns
  • cheese
  • plates
  • napkins
  • some drinks
  • cups
  • charcoal
  • lighter fluid
  • cooking utensils - hopefully :)
  • basic condiments

Having said that, the more stuff that we have, the more fun the picnic will be. So, it would be awesome if you brought something to share. Bring a bag of chips, a 2-liter of that weird soda that you like, some Entenmann's thing, a football and a frisbee, you get the idea. This is the way we do picnics in the open source world - scratch your own itch, share and share-alike, etc.

It's totally OK to bring food that needs to be cooked. Shish kabobs, veggie kabobs, steaks, bratwurst. Bring your favorite BBQ sauce or a premade salad.

It will be good fun to bring your family and friends. There are always a few kids there too. It is a low traffic kid friendly park with lots of grass and a playground.

Directions to the Park

Finding the park is very easy. The entrance to the park is right off of the Seaford Oyster Bay Expressway. Take the Seaford-Oyster Bay Expressway (Route 135) to exit 8. (If you're coming from the north, be cautioned that the exit sign is slightly blocked) Once you get to the end of the exit ramp, make a left turn and then turn at the sign that reads "Bethpage State Park - Picnic Area" . It is right after the exit, so if you drive for more than 30 seconds you've probably gone too far or in the wrong direction. Just follow that road until you get to a toll booth (it'll be a little bit, maybe a mile). Look out for bikers as there are a few bike trails that cross this road. Then just park and walk towards the crowd of geeks.
