LILUG is the Long Island Linux Users Group. We are a group of individuals that share an interest in Linux and other Free/Open Source Software. We hold monthly meetings and hold discussions on mailing lists as well as chat on IRC. Many of us have a goal of spreading Free/Open Source Software and helping people use this software. If you are interested in Free/Open Source Software and are in the Long Island area we welcome you to join us at an upcoming meeting.

Administrivia

Long Island Linux User Group, Inc., is an official Not-For-Profit organization, incorporated in the State Of New York under Section 402 of the New York State Not-For-Profit Corporation Law.

Our Federal Tax ID is 20-3145201. Contributions made to our organization may be tax-deductible (consult with your financial advisor about applicability).

The group has an official set of by-laws, also known as the group's consititution.

The group has drafted a Conflict Of Interest Policy to be considered by the group at large for incorporation into official group policy & procedures.

Nominations for LILUG Officers (President, Vice-President, Treasurer, Secretary) are held at the November general meeting. Elections are held at the December general meeting. Appointed positions are filled by the elected officers.

History

The group was formed in December, 1998, out of interested parties from two previously-existing Linux organizations, the Farmingdale Linux and Associated Technologies Club and the Brookhaven National Laboratory Local Linux Users Group.
